The town was first settled in 1908, and gets its name from the Beaver Indians who made
their temporary home, also known as a lodge, in the area. The town is a gateway to Monkman Pass, and is a

A detour 43 km (26 mi) west of Grande Prairie on Hwy 2 leads to this beautiful
town. The mural-covered Beaverlodge Hotel Museum is one of the oldest buildings in town and contains more than 10,000
artifacts. Open daily, free, 354-2059. South Peace Centennial Museum. is a pioneer village with 13 buildings filled
with furniture, tools and other artifacts. May 16 to Sept 6, daily 10 am - 6 pm. $2 adults, children free, 354-8869. Driftwood
Ranch & Wildlife Haven, between Beaverlodge and Hythe at Goodfair, specializes in endangered species including Siberian
tigers and snow leopards and features other exotic animals. May 1 through Sept, tours Wed to Sun 12 am - 6 pm, $5 per person,

January..AEE PEE WEE CLASSIC (the biggest annual hockey tournament of the season, featuring 12 Teams from northern communities)
March..SKATING CARNIVAL (the annual end of season event for our Figure Skating Club)

AUGUST..PIONEER DAY/PEACE COUNTRY OPEN (held on the weekend of the 3rd Sunday in July at the South Peace Centennial Museum.
The museum village comes alive with operating steam powered machinery- one of the finest in the country- many demonstrations
such as threshing and saw milling,suppers, breakfasts, and country music both days.
..OLD TIMERS RODEO (this rodeo is part of the
Old Timers Circuit and is held at the Rio Grande Rodeo grounds.
